Saarang is the annual cultural festival of IIT Madras. It is one of Asia’s largest student-run college festivals and among the oldest college festivals in India.
Since its humble beginnings as Mardi Gras, Saarang has grown into one of the country’s most celebrated cultural festivals, attracting participants, performers and visitors from across India. Recent editions of the festival have witnessed footfalls of over 80,000 people over the course of five days, featuring a vibrant mix of music, art, literature, dance and entertainment.
Events that take place during Saarang include:
Spotlight Lectures – Spotlight provides a platform for renowned personalities from diverse fields to engage with students through interactive sessions, lectures, performances and demonstrations. Over the years, Saarang has hosted artists, musicians, filmmakers, entrepreneurs and public figures from around the world.
Competitions – Competitive events are conducted throughout Saarang, with registrations opening through the official website ahead of the festival. These competitions span music, dance, fine arts, dramatics, fashion, literary arts and informal events such as scavenger hunts and fun activities conducted across the campus.
World Fest – A multi-day cultural showcase held at the KV Grounds featuring international artists and performers from across the globe. Previous editions of the World Fest have included performances across genres such as folk, alternative rock, hip-hop, fusion, acoustic and contemporary music.
Professional Shows – Saarang’s professional shows are among the most anticipated attractions of the festival, conducted at the Open Air Theatre of IIT Madras. These include:
